SERVICE
A large part of being a Freemason is our commitment to our community
Whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, SERVICE is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions by donating time, resources and skills.
Once in every eleven years each of the forty-four Masonic Provinces in England and Wales are asked, to raise funds for the central Masonic Charity, the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
Having completed our last period of Festival fundraising in 2014 the Province of Dorset is once again back in Festival mode raising funds for the MCF until the end of 2025, by which time we hope to have raised £1.25 million. To help us reach this figure in the last year of Festival 25 fundraising, our Worshipful Master has nominated this worthy cause for our charity efforts
Last years Lodge charity nominated by our WM WBro. Graham Smith was MOSAIC is a Dorset wide, mental health charity, founded in 2007. They are a provider of specialist bereavement services for children and young people up to age 18 and their families, offering vital support when there is none elsewhere.
The Charity was established following the identification of a clear gap in the provision for bereaved children in Dorset. Whilst there was a small amount of support offered to children whose parents were dying of terminal illness, there was no support for other causes of death. Mosaic provides support to any young person who has experienced the death of a parent, siblings, other close relative, friend or loved one and is finding it difficult to understand and express the overwhelming feeling grief can bring.
Freemasons are one of the largest charitable givers in the country, contributing more than £48 million to deserving causes in 2018 alone.
The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) runs the Masonic Charitable Foundation and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution both of which build better lives
by enabling opportunity, advancing healthcare, residential care and education and promoting independence for Freemasons, their families and the wider community
as a whole.
Funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families, we are one of the largest grant-making charities in the country.
Dorset Masonic Care is a charity run by Freemasons in Dorset. Established in 1880 to provide for the education of children of poor or deceased Freemasons of the Province of Dorset and to relieve and assist aged, sick or infirm Freemasons and necessitous widows of Dorset Freemasons.
